The 4th century BC is marked by intense diplomatic and military activity between Greeks and
Persians. Wars were rare, but Persian interventions in the Aegean world were not lacking. All of them have
often been presented in the same way: through the subsidies they granted, the Persians maintained the disunity
of the Greeks and prevented the emergence of a hegemon in the Balkans. This study proposes to approach the
question of Greek-Persian relations in the 4th century BC through the issue of hoarding, in order to consider
the view inherited from ancient authors from a different perspective.
