Ashis NANDY is a political psychologist and sociologist of science who works at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in New Delhi (India). He has worked on cultures of knowledge, visions, and dialogue of civilizations. He introduced his book " The Intimate Enemy: Loss and Recovery of Self Under Colonialism" written in 1983 and translated in spring 2007 in french (Fayard). This book looks at colonialism in its social, political and psychological context. The author suggests that its fundamental character is not so much economic or technological domination, but cultural subservience of the indigenous people to the arrogance of the rulers.
